California’s Bear Flag StreetsIn 2007 and 2008, we made several online searches of several map sites (Google Maps, MapQuest, Rand McNally, among others) to see how many “Bear Flag” streets were located within California. Since we reside in Sacramento, California, we were already aware of the existence of “Bear Flag Way” in Sacramento. With these searches, we found that there are two (at least) other streets in California bearing the name “Bear Flag.” Both also happen to be Bear Flag Roads, with one located in Sonoma, the home of the Bear Flag and its Revolt and the other in a tiny rural town named Stonyford. There was no Bear Flag street in Southern California. We have just found that there is a Bear Flag Drive located in Hanover Park, IL, not far from Chicago. With these finds, over the past months we made trips to each of the California “Bear Flag” streets to photograph them. Here you will find links to our photographic slide shows of California’s Bear Flag streets with a brief introduction to each. Sacramento’s Bear Flag Way is the shortest. Stonyford’s Bear Flag Road is the longest and the most rural. |
